# Finding your way around

The Administration Tool is one screen. Rather than a set of separate windows you move between, it keeps everything in view at once: what you are working on, where it sits, and what you can do to it.

**A — The top bar.** Search, and the tools that follow you everywhere. The search box finds scripts, questions and actions across the whole script type, and you can reach it from the keyboard at any time with `Ctrl` + `/`.

**B — The menu.** Everything the tool can do, in groups: Scripts, Testing, Monitoring, Configuration, Administration and Reporting. The counts beside an item are what it holds — 43 master scripts, 35 reports — so the menu doubles as a summary of your installation.

**C — The tree.** What exists, and where. The upper half is the script itself: categories, and the topics inside them. The lower half is the library of questions and actions those scripts are built from. Both halves have their own search box, and both can be dragged from — that is how a question gets into a script.

**D — Where you are.** The trail across the top names the script type, the category and the topic, so you always know which of several similar scripts you have open.

**E — What you can do.** The buttons for the thing on screen. They change with what you have open, but Save, Cancel and Delete are always at the right-hand end, and help on whatever you are looking at is always at the left.

**F — The status bar.** Your organisation, the environment, who you are signed in as, the version you are running, and when your work was last saved.

## The menu in more detail

You will not necessarily see all of these. The menu shows only what your organisation has and what your own permissions allow, so a colleague's menu may be longer or shorter than yours. If something described in this help is missing from yours, that is usually why — see [Signing in](/getting-started/signing-in.md).

Two groups are worth knowing early:

* **Scripts** is where the work happens. Script Types and Versions is where a change begins, Master scripts is where you edit one, and Questions & Actions is the library everything is built from.
* **Testing** is where you rehearse a change before anyone meets it. There is one test surface for each way a conversation can start.

## The tree, and why it has two halves

The upper half answers "what does this script do". The lower half answers "what is it made of". A question or a message exists once in the library and can be used by many scripts, so the two halves are genuinely different things rather than two views of the same one.

Both halves search independently. With hundreds of topics in a real script type, searching is usually quicker than scrolling — and the search box is where `Ctrl` + `M` and `Ctrl` + `Q` put the caret for you. See [Keyboard shortcuts](/getting-started/keyboard-shortcuts.md).

## Coming from Keyfax 4.x

Everything you configured before is still here. The main difference is the arrangement: the tree, the editor, and the properties of whatever you are editing are on screen together, and you move between them by clicking rather than by opening and closing windows.
