# Signing in

The Administration Tool runs in a browser. Your organisation will have given you its address — it is worth bookmarking, because it is the only way in.

You sign in with your **work Microsoft account**, the same one you use for email. Keyfax does not hold a separate password for you: your organisation's own sign-in decides who you are, and if you are already signed in to your work account the tool will usually open without asking you anything.

## The first time

The first time you arrive you will be asked to accept **one cookie**. The tool cannot run without it — it is what lets Keyfax reopen where you left off instead of resetting on every visit. It holds your consent and a handful of record numbers, and nothing else: no tracking, no personal data, and no part of your sign-in.

After that you are shown a welcome screen listing the script types your organisation has, so you can pick one and start. You can bring that screen back at any time with `Ctrl` + `.`.

## Why your Keyfax may look different from a colleague's

Two things decide what you see, and both are normal:

* **What your organisation has bought.** Keyfax is licensed in areas, and the menu only shows the areas you hold. A colleague at another organisation may have menu items you do not.
* **What you are allowed to do.** Your permissions come from your Microsoft account's groups. Someone who looks after scripts sees more of the Scripts group; someone who only reads reports may see little else.

So if this help describes something you cannot find, check the menu first — it is far more often a licensing or permissions difference than a fault.

## When you cannot get in

* **You are refused, or see no menu items at all.** Your account probably has not been given access yet. Ask whoever administers Keyfax at your organisation.
* **You are signed in as the wrong person.** Sign out of your work account in the browser, or open the tool in a private window, and sign in again.
* **Everything loads but nothing is editable.** You may be looking at a published version, which is read-only by design. See [Making your first script change](/getting-started/making-your-first-script-change.md).
