# Services and SOR codes

A service is the work a conversation has concluded is needed — the repair, the visit, the inspection — and the code that lets your housing system raise it.

## What a service carries

The description of the work, and the **schedule of rates (SOR) code** your housing system expects. The code is the part that has to be exactly right: it is what turns a conversation into a job with a trade, a duration and a cost against it.

Quantities and priorities are attached here too, so the job that is raised is complete rather than something a scheduler has to interpret.

## Keeping codes correct

Schedules of rates change. When yours does, the services in Keyfax need to change with it — a code that no longer exists produces a job nobody can action, and the conversation that raised it will have looked entirely successful.

It is worth checking these after any change to your schedule, rather than waiting for the first failed job to tell you.
