# Numerical

A number, and only a number.

<figure><img src="/files/0ESoDZKFvbm6xVufnY88" alt="A numerical question open in the editor"><figcaption><p>A numerical question and its options</p></figcaption></figure>

Use it wherever the answer will be counted, compared or calculated with. A number captured as text has to be converted before it can be used in a condition, and it will not be validated as you collect it.

## Options

Minimum and maximum bound what will be accepted, and decimal places decide whether fractions are allowed. Set these from what the answer means: a room count has no decimals and a sensible upper bound, a meter reading has neither.

The answer can be used directly in a databox expression — see [Numeric expressions](/reference/expression-reference/numeric-expressions.md).
