# Hand off to a human

**Badge: `HAND`**

Stops the automated conversation and passes it to a person — a transfer on the telephone, a live advisor in chat.

## Getting a hand-off right

**Where it goes.** A hand-off that reaches the wrong team is worse than none, because the caller has already spent time explaining.

**What the person receives.** They should arrive knowing what has been established so far. Being asked the same questions over again is the most common complaint about automated triage.

**What happens when nobody is there.** Out of hours, or when everyone is busy, the script still needs an ending — a callback, a message, or an honest statement of when someone will be in touch.
